Hard-working hands bring wealth

If you want to see a change for the better,
you have to take things into your own hands.
I took a moment earlier today
I stopped and just looked at my hands
And strange as it may sound, because it does to me,
It appeared as if they looked right back at me
And said to me in the oddest of ways
We do nothing, unless you tell us to

I sat for a while and looked back in time
Taking note of everything that I can do because of my hands
Taking note of all I didn’t do and yet I have hands
And in the same odd way I heard them speak to me
I found myself speaking back to them –
It’s not that I forget that you are there
But rather I forget or never consider
How much more I can do because you are there

Well spoken words bring satisfaction,
Well done work has its own reward
The diligent find freedom in their work
The lazy are oppressed by work itself
A lazy life is an empty life, but early to rise
gets the job done
Lazy hands bring poverty, but hard-working hands
will bring you wealth

I sat for a while and looked back in time
They told a story these hands of mine
Reminding me again and again
If you want to see a change for the better,
you have to take things into your own hands.
